Statement

For the purpose of arranging for children to attend schools, local authorities usually divide cities, towns and country areas into school catchment areas and children living in the same catchment area usually attend the same school. Every Angus Council school, both Primary and Secondary, is assigned a geographical area usually referred to as the school's 'delineated area', or 'catchment area'. Places within schools are normally offered to pupils who live within that area. Any changes to catchment areas / school closures are governed by the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 - this is a law which came into effect on 5 April 2010. It sets out the formal consultation process that councils must follow when proposing a permanent change to any of their schools. Denominational schools can have large catchment areas that overlap those of non-denominational schools and are open to pupils of all denominations, all faiths, and none. However, the way each council manages pupil intake for these schools can vary.
