An DC sector is one of 2 special postcode sectors created for 2011 Census Output.
A postcode sector comprises all the unit postcodes that have the same identifier except for the last two characters. DC sectors have a minimum threshold of 400 households and 1000 persons. There are 866 DC sectors.
The creation of a DC sector
2011 DC sectors are mergers of 2011 LC sectors. Where an LC sector fails to meet the minimum threshold for DC sectors it is merged with one or more neighbouring LC sectors within the same Council Area so that the DC threshold is met. DC sectors are labeled ‘EH35 5;EH36 5’ with a semi-colon to indicate the merger. DC sector cover Scotland and extend to the Mean High Water Mark (MHW).
