LiDAR for Outer Hebrides 2019 - 50cm DSM

A lidar survey of the Outer Hebrides was commissioned by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) to improve the topographic data available for modelling coastal and surface water flood risk. The aerial survey was carried out by Bluesky International Ltd. between June and September 2019. The point cloud data was captured at 4 points per square metre (ppm) and processed by Bluesky using the OSGM15 geoid model, OSTN15 horizontal transformation and Newlyn datum. The whole Outer Hebrides survey area had 11 ground control areas with RMSE values from 0.020m to 0.097m. The data is available as open data under an Open Government Licence. The 50 cm resolution data covers approximately 1705 km² including the area captured at the higher resulition of 25 cm. This dataset reflects the Digital Surface Model (DSM) produced from the point cloud data.

Statement

Commissioned by SEPA in 2019, the contract was awarded to Bluesky International Ltd. who conducted and processed the data. Airborne LiDAR was collected between June and September 2019 for 1705 km². The point density was a minimum of 4 points/sqm. By Feb 2020 Bluesky had delivered raw LAS files alongside Digital Terrain and Digital Surface Models at 50cm resolution (ASCII format). A survey report was provided detailing the accuracy of the data captured.
