Area Management - Marine conservation orders (MCOs) and fisheries orders in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs)
Nature Conservation Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are designated under the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010 or the UK Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. They have to be managed in a way that furthers the conservation objectives. The EU Habitats Directive requires Special Areas of Conservation (and Special Protection Areas) to be managed in a way that prevents deterioration of the qualifying features. The dataset contains boundaries and measures which are subject to Marine Conservation Orders (MCOs), the Inshore Fishing (Scotland) Act 1984 or the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) The following URL provides a link to further information: http://www.gov.scot/Topics/marine/marine-environment/mpanetwork/MPAMGT/
Proposed measures will be available during consultations

The boundaries of the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) were received from the Government advisor, Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH). Any data using British National Grid (EPSG:27700) was transformed to WGS84 (ESPG:4326) using EPSG:1314 transformation. The boundary of the Loch Sunart to Sound of Jura MPA was modified to include the Firth of Lorn SAC and to include harbour areas of Kilchoan and Craignure to mean low water spring (MLWS). The boundary of Lochs Duish, Long and Alsh MPA was modified to include the south extent of the Lochs Duish, Long and Alsh SAC along MLWS. Coastlines (mean high water spring, MHWS, or mean low water spring) are derived from Ordnance Survey MasterMap. Management measures and their boundaries were created by the Marine Conservation team following consultations.
