Administrative Units - Scottish Marine Regions (SMRs)
The Scottish Marine Regions are 11 areas established for the purposes of regional marine planning, defined by The Scottish Marine Regions Order 2015. These regions are sub-areas of both the "Scottish marine area" defined in the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010 and "Scottish inshore region" defined in the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009.
Marine planning will take place at a local level within these regions, where regional marine planning will be delegated to Marine Planning Partnerships (MPPs).
In August 2018, the Scottish Marine Regions were added to the Scottish Register of Geographic Codes as entity S41.

Coordinates digitised from the Scottish Marine Regions Order 2015 and Scottish Adjacent Waters Boundary Order 1999. Territorial seas (12M limit) retrieved from UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) INSPIRE service on 20170925. High water line derived from Ordnance Survey BoundaryLine version 2017/5. All coordinates and data on OSGB1936 datum or British National Grid projection were transformed to WGS1984 using OSTN15 grid (EPSG:7709). All line joins are loxodromic except where described in legislation as shortest planar distance on British National Grid projection. For the purposes of the Solway, the Scottish adjacent waters boundary was extended to the nearest point of the common boundary between Scotland and England as recorded on OS Boundary Line; this section of the line is for illustrative purposes only and does not describe a legal boundary. For standardisation, attributes use S57 vocabulary (see s-57.com) with additional fields. Area values calculated on ETRS89 / LAEA Europe (EPSG:3035) as integers. Data confirmed as of 05/12/2022.
