Energy Resources - Sectoral Marine Plan - Offshore Wind Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas - Areas of Search and exclusions
The Areas of Search and exclusions identify early Sectoral Marine Planning considerations for suitable offshore wind development. These locations will be progressed through a Sectoral Marine Planning exercise to determine areas of seabed, that can be leased by Crown Estate Scotland, for offshore wind projects that will be replacing traditional energy sources for oil and gas platforms/infrastructure. Following a public consultation (August 2022 to October 2022) the areas have been modified and republished in the INTOG Initial Plan Framework (February 2022)

These spatial features are the output of an opportunity and constraint analysis carried out using multiple spatial information layers. All input data are reprojected to WGS84 and vector features are rasterised using a common base layer (common extent and cell size). all layers are classified into high, medium or low constraint groupings (only one classification required) and then assigned a weighting (1 -10) based on expert advice and consistent with previous planning tasks. once combined, a range of constraint levels can be visualised and lower areas can be identified. Following the creation of broad features based on lower constraint, these features are then refined using single data analysis examining data such as fishing effort, shipping routes to ensure features avoid areas that may be been blurred in the analysis. The refined features are then exported to Shapefile format. Features have been densified at vertices every 1KM. Following a public consultation (August 2022 to October 2022) the areas have been modified and republished in the INTOG Initial Plan Framework (February 2022)
