National Air Traffic Services (NATS) Safeguarding Zones - Scotland

Under The Town & Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1990 and The Town and Country Planning (Technical Sites) (Scotland) Direction 2003 and Scottish Executive Planning Circular 2/2003, planning authorities are required to consult with NATS if a planning application of significant height falls within its Safeguarding Zones.

There are 3 types of bodies that can produce Safeguarding Zones

1. An officially safeguarded civil aerodrome (of which there were 12 at the time the legislation was drafted)

2. The operator of a Civil En-route Technical Site

3. Defence Estates in relation to military aerodromes, technical sites and explosives storage areas

The data provided here covers the 2nd case above, and any consultation in relation to these sites should be routed to natssafeguarding@nats.co.uk natssafeguarding@nats.co The data provided here covers the 2nd case above, and any consultation in relation to these sites should be routed to natssafeguarding@nats.co.uk
